Repost from RedBolts FB group. Sir Henry Funtecha suffered from "dissective aneurysm'' (widening of aortic artery causing a rip) the night of 11 October. Last night an x-ray (angiogram) was performed and Sir is still in critical condition. That according to a text message from his son as of 9am today. The plan to airlift him to Heart Center (which will cost hundreds of thousands of pesos) was temporarily postponed until he stabilizes.

Sir Henry, a colleague, mentor and dear friend to many of us, needs our tangible support and assistance in this trying time. For now, it is imperative that we help build a monetary chest for the possible airlift, and medication/treatmen t. I urge one and all to spread the word and send support to the DSS-CAS Office in UPV Miagao or via moneygram (e.g., western union). Please address to:

Prof Jorge Ebay
Chair
Division of Social Sciences-CAS
UP Vusayas, Miagao, Iloilo 502-A
Faxphone: (33) 513-7012

latest update (as of 13 oct, 2pm)

Latest decision is to operate on Sir Henry at the Iloilo Mission Hospital. The procedure is urgently needed to save his life.

Your prayers and support are badly needed....

For CPU and UP Visayas students/alumni:

Dear Everyone,

It is with heavy heart that I relay to your the passing way of Dr. Henry F. Funtecha, a very dear colleague, a respected mentor and a beloved friend, at dawn today due to dissective aneurysm. His remains will lie in state in St. Therese Memorial Chapel tonight and will be brought to UPV Auditorium at the City Campus tomorrow, October 16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. His remains will lie there overnight. The following morning he will be brought to his church in Central Philippine University.

We enjoin all you to be with us, the faculty and staff of the Division of Social Sciences, in paying our last respects to Sir Henry.

To many of us, I'm sure that in one way or another, directly or indirectly, he was able to touch our lives as members of the UPV community. We are all saddened and shocked by the fact that he was taken so suddenly and so soon.

Hoping to see you all,

Jorge S. Ebay
Chairperson
Division of Social Sciences
CAS, UP Visayas
Miagao, Iloilo
