i also received this thru email from my officemate. i was very surprised to know na wala ang upv. but then the result was based on the average passing in the BOARD EXAMINATIONS OF ALL COURSES of all universities and colleges in the Philippines. i guess this is the reason why upv didn't make it? i can't enumerate courses with board examinations but i guess there are a few of them being offered in up visayas. accountancy, foodtech, fish, chem.. what else did i miss? oh well.. did i just made up an excuse why upv didn't make it to the top 20? nyahaha.. i guess this should serve as a challenge to the administration and to the students as well. oh by the way that officemate of mine is from ust. kaya nga niya siguro sinend sakin yung email na yun kasi alam niya wala ang upv dun and ust is on the 7th spot. Basi 21st ang UPV? Lolz.

My two centimos worth:
Does "...based on average passing..." refer to the population of takers or to the passing rate?

If PRC's and CHED's plan behind the survey is to induce competitiveness among the top universities and colleges, shouldn't the focus be more on the quality of education as manifested by the resulting average passing rate and not on the number of takers?

Regardless of credibility and any other issues (or excuses), the survey does signify that UPV (whether on or off the list) has to do more capacity building and partnerships to continuously improve its quality of education with focus on global competitiveness.

that list was way back 1997 yata. or earlier. yes, may ara man sa amon website sa FEU. gina discuss man na namon. anyway, kung board passing rate ang basehan, wala kita choice kay most courses offered by UPV wala board exam. chem, foodtech, fish kag accountancy lang gid aton courses nga may board exam. but again, puro man topnotcher ang UPV sa mga board exams sina. so the list is negligible. indi na sya reliable kay man dugay na ina kag wala namasundan. konsuelo lang na sa iban nga mga schools nga wala da dapat.

daw indi ko mag pati nga XU, st louis kag ateneo de davao ara sa list nga ina. daw sa ECE lang man naga exist ang ateneo de davao. as for XU and st. louis... hay... wala ko may nabatian sa mga schools nga ina... maliban sa mga sex scandals. lol.  haha haha

I did a little Googling and this study was conducted from 1992 to 2001 pa pala. Fisheries didn't have a board exam until 2003. I don't know the situation in the early part ~1992 when Miagao campus was still quite new. Our population with board exams might have been very small..

Sorry for posting old data! ashamed

I did a little googling as well and found out this link: http://www.filipinasoul.com/philippines-best-universities/, which states that UP is still the best university in the Philippines.

I also tried to check out their source (http://www.topuniversities.com/worlduniversityrankings/results/2007/overall_rankings/top_400_universities/) and found out that UP (as a whole) is ranked 398th in the world in 2007. While in 2005, UP was in 372nd place. It's sad that we're going down the rank.

Fortunately, UP Diliman is able to reach the 14th rank among universities in Southeast Asia according to http://www.webometrics.info. While, I think, the whole UP System is ranked 56th accross SEA. My source is this link http://www.webometrics.info/Webometrics%20library/Sureste%20de%20Asia%20jan08.pdf.

14th? 56th?! That's a pity! There are only 10 countries in Southeast Asia! oh no

Well, it depends on the parameters they use to gauge the universities.

EDIT: 11 countries pala, including E Timor.

apat lang naman kasi ang degree programs na may board exam sa atin- fisheries, chem, ph (for medtech) and accountancy. so i think yun ang reason.. but still, we're part of the UP System.. okay
